Ordot-Chalan Pago is a combined village that consists of two former villages: Ordot and Chalan Pago. It is in the eastern-central part of the island and is part of the Kattan (Eastern) District. Ordot-Chalan Pago has a rich history and culture, as it was one of the first places where Spanish missionaries established a church and a school in the 17th century. The municipality of Chalan Pago-Ordot stretches across the narrow “waist” of the island of Guam. Housing areas are built mostly along Route 4. The area is covered with lush green vegetation and homes are built on flat areas of land at times next to small valleys. Some residences have also been built at the foothills of nearby mountains. The word “ordot” means “ant” due to the type of soil there that attracts certain types of ants, while the word “chalan pago” means road to scenic Pago Bay.
