Piti is a central village that borders the Apra Harbor. It is part of the Luchan (Western) District. Piti was once a fishing village where villagers used fish traps to catch their food. The coastline in Piti is lined by two beach parks: Tepungan Beach Park, with newer pavilions, and the Pedro Santos Memorial Park, with an older, large pavilion and basketball court. This area of the coast, known as the Piti Bomb Holes, is a marine preserve, where fishing is now prohibited. This prohibition has resulted in an abundance of fish and other sea life that make the Piti waters popular among divers and snorkelers. Piti also has strategic importance, as it hosts several military and naval facilities, such as Naval Base Guam, Naval Magazine Guam, and Naval Hospital Guam. The village’s name comes from the word “pitti”, which means a type of fish trap.
