Santa Rita is a southern village that overlooks Apra Harbor and is part of the Haya (Southern) District.. As many areas in the village allow for a spectacular view of the harbor, which is beautifully lit up at night, quite a few homes have been built here in recent years. Santa Rita was formerly known as Sumay, which was the original commercial and population center of Guam before World War II. Santa Rita has many historical and cultural sites, such as Sumay Cemetery, Old Agat Cemetery, and Santa Rita Church. The village’s name comes from Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of impossible causes.
