Tamuning is the economic and tourism hub of Guam. It is in the central-western part of the island and includes the popular tourist district of Tumon and the commercial Harmon industrial park. Tamuning has many hotels, resorts, bars, clubs, and shops that cater to visitors from around the world. It is home to the Guam Premier Outlets, one of three major shopping centers of the island. Tamuning also has many historical and cultural sites, such as Two Lovers Point and Ypao Beach Park. Tamuning’s name is a Carolinian word which was given to the area where Carolinians settled beginning in 1849, after a typhoon devastated Lamotrek and Satawal. It may be that Tamuning is the name of the Carolinian chief’s clan.
